Historic Bluffton Secession Live Oak
On July 31, 1844 a group of local separatists called “The Bluffton Boys” met under a large live oak in what is now called “Old Town” Bluffton and organized the first political movement to have South Carolina secede from the Union. On February 13, 2021 this same tree collapsed under the stress of its own weight.
The 8 bowls in this collection have been turned from limb wood from this historic failed tree.
